Hospice provides services that promote the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of the patient and family. An interdisciplinary team of specially trained professionals is available to visit and provide care in the patient's home, or wherever they might reside. Nursing services are available twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. Other members of the team are available to provide support on an emergency basis. In addition, hospice provides the durable medical equipment and medications for the terminal disease condition.
While the emphasis in hospice is to provide care in the patient's home or skilled nursing facility, provisions are made for general inpatient and respite care should they become necessary. Continuous care is available if there is a crisis and the patient and family choose not to be admitted to an inpatient setting.
